Our Arts Correspondent and Elton John fan, Yuvaraj Parmar stayed up all night to watch the showman perform at his last American gig. Was it worth it? You bet it was.

In 1975, Elton made his first appearance at Dodgers Stadium. A place in which very few people had performed, the most notable being The Beatles. Elton was at the peak of his musical height with his album Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy reaching number 1.

What better way to celebrate than to perform to an audience of 50,000 people a night.

Fast forward forty-seven years later and Elton returns as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road. With the star becoming more relevant then ever in recent years, Disney Plus decided to live stream his last concert in America – and being the Elton fan I am, I decided to stay up at 4am to watch it live.

His electricity was palpable and his voice stronger than ever, gone are the handstands and chair throwing but what youthful energy Elton once had has been made up by his incredible voice and dazzling showmanship.

The stage was bright and vibrant reflecting the audience’s joy as they sang along to his greatest hits all dressed up; Rocketman, I’m Still Standing and Crocodile Rock just to name a few. Elton and his band played brilliantly with Elton’s skill as a pianist filling the space with a jovial sound of his Yamaha piano.

To celebrate his last show in America, Elton acknowledged his appreciation by involving some of his singing partners to collaborate with him once again.

From his latest album, The Lockdown Sessions, Brandi Carlile accompanied Elton singing Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me harking back to the legendary live version of the song with Elton and George Michael back in 1991. Not to mention Kiki Dee making a brief appearance to sing the 1976 classic Don’t Go Breaking My Heart as well as the number one hit of 2021 Cold Heart with Dua Lipa.

Without a doubt, Elton, dressed in his unmistakable fashion, wore a stunning array of outfits and a beautifully decorated sequined gown and baseball cap, a lovely sentiment to the outfit he once wore back in 1975. But that isn’t all this show had to offer! There were famous faces such as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex paying tribute to Elton as well as David Beckham.

I recommend any music fan to watch this once in a lifetime spectacle - his last concert in America. It was a privilege to watch live even though it was at 4am! The concert is now available to watch on Disney Plus. As well as another documentary on Elton and his farewell tour coming to the Disney Plus Channel in the coming months.
