Handrail Creations, a specialist in bespoke handrails and balustrades, has invested in a wireless, AI-driven 3D scanner to support its growing project portfolio across the United Kingdom.
The Bolton-based firm currently manages approximately 160 live projects. The new scanning equipment features an integrated 5-inch high-definition display and battery, designed to capture high-quality spatial data quickly and accurately.
The technology is deployed on roughly two-thirds of the company's projects, enabling the team to take precise digital measurements of complex staircases—including curved and twisting designs—particularly where original architectural drawings are unavailable, such as with in-situ cast concrete or refurbishment projects.
Digital scan data forms the foundation of the firm's computer-aided design (CAD) process, allowing engineers to generate accurate 3D models prior to manufacture. This digital integration follows a £500,000 factory expansion completed in 2025, which included structural refurbishments and facility upgrades to accommodate more complex commercial contracts across the leisure, retail, hospitality, and wellbeing sectors.
Kenny Macfarlane, Managing Director at Handrail Creations, said: “As our live projects thrive and prospects for projects continue to grow, continuing to invest in state-of-the-art technology as it grows has become an integral part of our business to improve efficiency without compromising on quality.
“Investing in cutting-edge technology like the 3D scanner allows us to capture precise data much faster, giving our teams accurate information needed to produce accurate CAD models for manufacturing. This streamlines our production process so we can continue to consistently deliver high-quality projects to customers.”
