Two hotels, two very different afternoon teas: RAF heritage in Lincoln and a cliff-top adventure in Robin Hood's Bay both mark Afternoon Tea Week from 10th to 16th August.

Afternoon Tea Week is being marked with a distinctly regional flavour this year, as the White Hart Hotel in Lincoln and Hotel Victoria in Robin Hood's Bay — both part of the Loxley Collection — launch limited-edition experiences built around the heritage and character of their surroundings.

At the White Hart Hotel, the only AA 4-Star Silver Award hotel in Lincolnshire, the theme draws on the county's aviation history. The hotel already trades on that connection: its Gibson Club Bar pays tribute to the 617 Dambusters Squadron, while its Tank Room marks the spot where the world's first military tank was conceived in 1915. For Afternoon Tea Week, staff in Antlers Restaurant will don RAF uniforms to serve a menu that includes Dambuster mature cheddar with red onion chutney, Seven & Wye smoked salmon with cucumber and cream cheese, and roast chicken breast with smoked bacon mayonnaise, alongside a Lincolnshire sausage meat Scotch egg, sausage roll, and fruit scones with clotted cream and jam. The package is priced at £40 for two throughout the week, or £50 including prosecco — against a usual price of £29.95 per person without prosecco.

Further north, Hotel Victoria — built by a local sea captain in 1897 and perched on North Yorkshire's Heritage Coast — is taking a more exploratory approach with its Bay Explorer Afternoon Tea. Guests are driven from the hotel's cliff-top setting into Robin Hood's Bay by Monaco Golf Buggy, then given an hour to wander the village's cobbled streets and independent shops before returning for tea in the AA Rosette Osborne's Restaurant, which looks out over the sea. The Yorkshire-inspired menu features honey roast Yorkshire ham with beer chutney, oak-smoked salmon with cream cheese and cucumber, and a Robin Hood's Bay Fisherman's Treat of dressed Whitby crab with sourdough bruschetta, saffron aioli and pickled cucumber, alongside a goat's cheese and beetroot tartlet and chicken liver parfait on ginger loaf. Sweet treats include a dark chocolate and sailor rum truffle, Victoria sponge, and a raspberry red velvet cupcake with cinnamon butter icing. The experience, including the buggy trip, is priced from £25 per person.

Andrew Long, founder of the Loxley Collection, said each of the group's hotels has its own history and sense of place, and that the food and drink on offer should reflect that. He added that the two experiences connect guests with their surroundings while showcasing regional flavours and stories, and that working with local suppliers and communities keeps the hotels rooted in their locality.

Both experiences run for the duration of Afternoon Tea Week, from 10th to 16th August.
