Ahead of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Team England have announced their new partnership with GLL as they hope to inspire communities ahead of the games.
GLL, the UK’s largest charitable leisure social enterprise, will work with Team England, as both organisations hope to help people across England to ‘get active, discover new sports and feel part of something bigger’.
On the new partnership, the CEO of Commonwealth Games England, Mark Osikoya, said: "We're thrilled to be partnering with GLL, who are an organisation that share our belief in the power of sport to bring people together.”
“With their incredible reach into communities across England, this partnership will help more people feel connected to Team England and inspired by the journey to Glasgow 2026.”
Through GLL’s network of Better leisure centres, which have millions of visits a year, the enterprise will play a major role in connecting communities to Team England in the lead-up to the Games.
The two organisations will join together for the Team England National Sports Weekend, which will take place on 18th-19th July 2026, with GLL venues across the nation opening their doors to Commonwealth sports.
Around 300,000 people are expected to take part in this weekend of sport as families, young people and new participants are given the chance to try some new sports through ‘free or low-cost sessions, coaching and taster activities for local communities’.
This new partnership builds upon GLL’s already ‘long track record of supporting both elite and community sports', as they have to date provided over 35,000 awards and almost £20 million worth of support to aspiring sportsmen and women.
On the partnership and the National Sports Weekend, the CEO of GLL Peter Bundey, said: “GLL is proud to support Team England and to help open up Commonwealth sports to people of all ages and abilities.”
“The National Sports Weekend will be a fantastic celebration of movement, community and opportunity. We can’t wait to welcome thousands of people into our centres this summer.”
Both organisations will continue to work together in the lead-up to the 2026 Commonwealth Games, which will see Team England join nations from around the world in Glasgow to compete in a range of sports from the 23rd July to 2nd August.
